Let's look at theme parks...

View these two Dreamworld commercials. The first is a very old advertisement from 1988. The second commercial was created for the 30th birthday celebrations in 2011. Why might the producers have used the same theme song in the newer commercial? Consider the effects used, including the visual point of view and the length and sequence of scenes. What feelings and message was the producer in each of these commercials trying to create?
Think about a time when you have visited a place with amusement rides such as a show, Ekka, or theme park. What parts of the experience of visiting a theme park or fun fair has the producer not included in these commercials?
After viewing these commercials, make a list of the rides and attractions you can remember from the commercials or from your own experience. Can you group these rides and attractions using a concept map?

Fantastic Forces
What do you already know about forces?
When you were younger you might have learnt about pushes and pulls that can change the way things move, or change their shape. These pushes and pulls are called forces. Watch the Dreamworld video again. What forces might be at work in the rides at a theme park? Add your thoughts about forces to a class chart. |
